Bukhari, Syeda Allia ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (advisor) ; Miessler, Jan (referee)
This thesis attempts to explore the coverage of the yearly women's march in Pakistan, better known as the Aurat March, in the local and Urdu media of the country. Aurat March is one of the most contested events in the South Asian country, creating polarised opinions - in favour and against - in society. The same divided rhetoric is seen in the media. The thesis looks into 80 articles, covering a span of the last two years, from 2019 till 2021, by 4 local Urdu publications: Ummat, Express Urdu, Jang and NawaiWaqt and applies grounded theoretical methods to find how the march is portrayed in the media, the latter's perception of Western-style feminism and whether or not the coverage is influenced by religious nationalism and patriarchal values.

Sichlerová, Nikola ; Knotková, Blanka (advisor) ; Bendíková, Soňa (referee)
This paper deals with the topic of women in British India, especially in the second half of the 19th century, and the change of their situation during the British rule. With the British taking over the rule of the country in the second half of the 19th century, Indian society was more and more being exposed to European customs and different takes on women's position in society. The British introduced numerous laws which in effect improved the situation of women, such as the Hindu Widows Remarriage Act for example, and will be reviewed and assessed with regard to their historical context in this paper. Not only does this thesis give an insight into the women's situation during this period, it also illustrates what was done to change it from both British and Indian perspectives.
